The payment setup before MONEI

Before switching to MONEI, Farma2go relied on Redsys, integrated into a legacy PrestaShop setup. While functional on the surface, the system came with severe limitations that became impossible to ignore as the business expanded beyond Spain. “Our growth was being limited by something as basic as getting paid,” says Jorge. 

Where Redsys fell short, especially internationally

As Farma2go scaled, payment friction became increasingly visible at checkout. The business experienced high rates of failed payments (i.e., lost revenue), particularly on international cards, and low authorization rates outside Spain. Frequent technical errors, including deadlocks, broken sessions, and incompatible payment modules, disrupted the checkout flow. External payment forms further increased friction, while the lack of local payment methods in key European markets made it harder for customers to complete purchases.

The impact on the business

Payments weren’t just an operational inconvenience; they were actively holding the business back. Before switching to MONEI, Farma2go lost sales from customers who wanted to pay but couldn’t, while support teams spent more time resolving payment-related issues. Failed transactions also eroded customer trust and created real barriers to expansion in markets like Portugal, Germany, and Italy.

The solution: switching from Redsys to MONEI on Shopify

Farma2go evaluated several alternatives before choosing MONEI. Three factors stood out:

From launch, Farma2go accepted card payments alongside Bizum, PayPal (via MONEI), MBWay, and Multibanco, all managed from a single, unified platform.

Bizum quickly became a key driver of mobile conversion in Spain. Customers could pay instantly using a familiar and trusted method, reducing friction and significantly lowering checkout abandonment on mobile devices.

MBWay and Multibanco fuel cross-border expansion in Portugal

The impact in Portugal was immediate and substantial. “Portugal has grown more than 70% in sales volume since adding MBWay and Multibanco,” says Jorge. These local payment methods now account for 30%+ of all transactions in the country. Familiar payment options increased trust and helped more customers successfully complete checkout.

Shopify + MONEI as an all-in-one PSP

Using MONEI as a complete PSP on Shopify gave Farma2go full visibility and control over payments, with a single dashboard for reconciliation and reporting, fewer manual processes, and reduced weekly admin time. “The integration is native, stable, and very fast,” says Jorge. “Payments are finally easy to manage.”

After switching to MONEI, Farma2go saw a 50%+ reduction in failed payments and a 70%+ drop in payment errors, alongside higher conversion rates across all markets, especially in Portugal.

What’s next for Farma2go?

Looking ahead, Farma2go sees 2026 as a pivotal year. Plans include accelerated international expansion, a greater share of European sales, more subscription and repeat-purchase models, and the addition of local payment methods in strategic markets. Increased personalization and data-driven marketing will also play a key role.
