Farma2go nearly doubles turnover and scales international sales by switching from Redsys to MONEI

Farma2go was scaling fast, but its payment infrastructure couldn’t keep up. However, after switching from Redsys to MONEI as its all-in-one payment service provider on Shopify, the online pharmacy dramatically improved checkout performance across Spain and Europe. This resulted in fewer failed payments, higher conversion rates, faster cash flow, and nearly double the annual turnover.
"Collecting payment is the basis of the business, so if your gateway fails you, you pay a huge price,” says Jorge Pelaez, CEO & Founder of Farma2go. “MONEI gives you modern technology, local methods, impeccable support, and a real increase in conversions."
Farma2go shares how integrating with MONEI has unlocked international growth and turned checkout from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage.
Key results at a glance
Since switching from Redsys to MONEI, Farma2go has achieved:
- 50%+ reduction in failed payments
- 70%+ reduction in payment errors
- Nearly doubled annual turnover
- 70%+ cross-border growth in Portugal
- 30%+ of Portuguese payments via MBWay and Multibanco
- One day payment settlements for faster cash flow and operational flexibility
The challenge: when payments slow down growth
Farma2go is a pharmacy e-commerce brand that democratizes access to health and well-being by offering high-quality products at the best prices, delivered through a fast, simple, and secure online experience. Its growth is built on three pillars:
- Proprietary technology
- Efficient logistics
- A relentless focus on customer satisfaction
“Our growth was being limited by something as basic as getting paid.”
—Jorge Pelaez, CEO & Founder of Farma2go

The payment setup before MONEI
Before switching to MONEI, Farma2go relied on Redsys, integrated into a legacy PrestaShop setup. While functional on the surface, the system came with severe limitations that became impossible to ignore as the business expanded beyond Spain. “Our growth was being limited by something as basic as getting paid,” says Jorge.
Where Redsys fell short, especially internationally
As Farma2go scaled, payment friction became increasingly visible at checkout. The business experienced high rates of failed payments (i.e., lost revenue), particularly on international cards, and low authorization rates outside Spain. Frequent technical errors, including deadlocks, broken sessions, and incompatible payment modules, disrupted the checkout flow. External payment forms further increased friction, while the lack of local payment methods in key European markets made it harder for customers to complete purchases.
The impact on the business
Payments weren’t just an operational inconvenience; they were actively holding the business back. Before switching to MONEI, Farma2go lost sales from customers who wanted to pay but couldn’t, while support teams spent more time resolving payment-related issues. Failed transactions also eroded customer trust and created real barriers to expansion in markets like Portugal, Germany, and Italy.
The solution: switching from Redsys to MONEI on Shopify
Farma2go evaluated several alternatives before choosing MONEI. Three factors stood out:
- Modern, e-commerce-native technology built for scale
- Significantly higher international card approval rates
- Full PSP functionality on Shopify, replacing fragmented payment tools
Equally important was MONEI’s responsive, hands-on support, something Farma2go considered critical as a fast-growing e-commerce business.
A smooth migration from Redsys to MONEI
Despite the complexity of switching platforms, the migration was surprisingly fast. “It was one of the fastest technical migrations we’ve ever done,” says Jorge. With MONEI’s support, Farma2go moved from PrestaShop and Redsys to Shopify and MONEI and was fully operational within days.
From launch, Farma2go accepted card payments alongside Bizum, PayPal (via MONEI), MBWay, and Multibanco, all managed from a single, unified platform.
Bizum reduces mobile abandonment in Spain
Bizum quickly became a key driver of mobile conversion in Spain. Customers could pay instantly using a familiar and trusted method, reducing friction and significantly lowering checkout abandonment on mobile devices.

MBWay and Multibanco fuel cross-border expansion in Portugal
The impact in Portugal was immediate and substantial. “Portugal has grown more than 70% in sales volume since adding MBWay and Multibanco,” says Jorge. These local payment methods now account for 30%+ of all transactions in the country. Familiar payment options increased trust and helped more customers successfully complete checkout.

Shopify + MONEI as an all-in-one PSP
Using MONEI as a complete PSP on Shopify gave Farma2go full visibility and control over payments, with a single dashboard for reconciliation and reporting, fewer manual processes, and reduced weekly admin time. “The integration is native, stable, and very fast,” says Jorge. “Payments are finally easy to manage.”
The results: fewer payment failures, higher conversion, better cash flow
Dramatic improvements in payment performance
After switching to MONEI, Farma2go saw a 50%+ reduction in failed payments and a 70%+ drop in payment errors, alongside higher conversion rates across all markets, especially in Portugal.
“The payment experience is now a strong point, not a weak one,” says Jorge. Beyond revenue, fewer failed payments led to a myriad of benefits. Customer trust increased as payments became reliable, cart abandonment rates declined, support tickets decreased, and the overall shopping experience improved from start to finish.
Nearly doubled turnover
“MONEI didn’t just solve our payment problems; it unlocked growth,” says Jorge. A combination of factors drove turnover growth: more payment methods, enabling more customers to complete checkout; a faster, more reliable Shopify checkout experience; and frictionless international expansion.
One-day settlements = better cash flow, more flexibility
In a sector where inventory turnover is critical, faster settlements are a competitive advantage. With MONEI’s one-day settlements, Farma2go now receives funds the next business day, improving day-to-day operations. Immediate liquidity supports inventory purchases, advertising spend can be adjusted almost in real time, and the business has more capacity to negotiate terms with suppliers.
What’s next for Farma2go?
Looking ahead, Farma2go sees 2026 as a pivotal year. Plans include accelerated international expansion, a greater share of European sales, more subscription and repeat-purchase models, and the addition of local payment methods in strategic markets. Increased personalization and data-driven marketing will also play a key role.
“MONEI will be a key technology partner in this phase,” says Jorge. “It will help us scale our capacity to process payments in multiple markets with an impeccable experience."
